Word 2007 is slow to load	This is due to the time it takes Word to open Normal.dotm. This is in the location: C:\Documents and Settings\(Your login)\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates\Normal.dotm. You can proove this by moving or renaming that file, and then open Word. However after opening it, Word will recreate the Normal.dotm file, and so any further launching, will be slow again. My first options were: 1. Leave word minimised, and then when you double click to open documents, the minimised session of Word is used but you need to remember to minimse it, each time you have finished editing. 2. Another option is to create a batch file, that always deletes Normal.dotm before opening Word. The problem was finally resolved, from AVG. An update supplied by them, has an option to not install the Plugin for Microsoft Office 2000/XP. This is done by selecting Add/Remove Components in Version 7.5.
Office 2007 not running macros	In previous versions of Office, macros were often easily controlled by setting your Office applications to prompt before running macros. Office 2007 is similar but the prompt is not easy to see. (Look just under the Ribbon) I found that a good way to avoid having to look for the prompt all the time, if you have documents in a private and secure space, was to add them to the Trusted Locations. Main Menu | Word Options | Trust Center | Trust Center Settings | Trusted Locations. Add the directories into there.
Office 2007 documents opening in Read-only	There may be various normal reasons, such as your folder rights, folder properties etc. But I also found a new feature in the document finalisation. If a document is finalised, then it becomes Read-only each time you open it. If you want to edit a finalised docoument, from Main Menu | Prepare | Mark as Final. This is a toggle, where if a docuoment is not finalised this will allow you to finalise it. If a document was already finalised, then this allows you to un-finalise it. Then it won't be Read-only any more.
Office 2007 shows "Running virus scan" on status bar when openin documents.	There is plenty written about this on internet forums, so I won't copy all that. But in most cases, it revolves around you anti-virus software. What is different here is that with AVG there is no obvious option to turn this scanning off. I contacted grisoft, and they were extremely quick and helpful. The top resolution above fixed this, ie the plugin can be removed by running the install program, and clicking Add/Remove Components in Version 7.5. Office 2007 Menus generally.	I found these to be quite frustrating. Only way to maintain sanity is to add otions that you use regularly to the "Quick Access ToolBar". The dropdown on the right of it, enables you to customise, and then you can choose "More Commands". Add from left to right, to place options on the menu. Note: when you first open this window, it only shows the Popular Commands. Pull down this pick list, and you can select commands not on the Ribbon, or commands on each Ribbon menu, or all Commands. Once you have selected and Added each command, click OK and the command is mounted on the Quick Access ToolBar. I have not found a way to edit the Ribbon, and expect we will have to wait for a new version of Office.
Activesync 4.x and Outlook 2007.	There are many complaints and different solutions for Activesync problems. Most often these are accompanied with error 85010014. Some I found from the internet are: 1. Find Scanpst.exe on your computer, and run it on the pst file. It has been known to find a problem, and fix it, solving the Activesync problem. This did not work for me. 2. Delete all relationships, reboot computer and recreate them. This did not work for me. 3. Turn off Firewall. This did not work for me. 4. Run Office 2007 Diagnostics under the Outlook 2007 Help Menu. This found a problem and fixed it. After this, I was able to Activesync OK.
Add Developer tab to Excel 2007 Ribbon	The new Office 2007 Ribbon is largely fixed. However some things can be changed. By default you do not have a Developer Tab, but if you are skilled in automation, macros etc, you often need one. To add the Developer Tab, go to Excel Options and in the Popular section, click in the "Show Developer tab in the Ribbon".
Adding many Icons to the Quick Access Toolbar (QAT)	You will find that once you start getting several items, if the QAT is in the default location above the Ribbon, that it runs out of space due to the filename in the Window Title. Moving the QAT to below the ribbon, gives you the full width.
Adding several lines or graphics	In older versions, if you had to add several graphics, such as a series of lines joining some boxes, you had to click and select the line and then draw it each time. In Office 2007, you can Right Click on the (Insert | Shapes | Line) and select "Lock Drawing Mode". This enables you to draw several of the same type of line, or whatever, without reselecting it. Press Esc when you have finished.
Where is the Drawing Tools Toolbar or Tab	Normally, the Drawing Tools Tab is not visible on the Ribbon. To make it appear, you must first click on a drawing or graphic. If you don't have one yet, you insert it first from the Insert | Shapes Ribbon. Once inserted it is selected by default, and the Drawing Tools Tab will be visible on the Ribbon.
Word Document Properties	You access Properties from the Main Icon menu, and choose properties, but only some are visible. To access the complete Properties box like in earlier versions of Word, access Properties as described, and at the top left of the new Properties window, click on "Document Properties" and then "Advanced Properties". This pops up the conventional properties dialogue box.
Outlook Instant Search Bar	When you first run Outlook, you are prompted for index searching. If you are like me, you avoid turning things on unless you need them, so I select no. But then, Outlook persists in showing an Activate Search bar on the screen. You can turn it off by going to: Tools | Options | Other | Advanced Options and then remove the tick from "Show Prompts to Enable Instant Search"
Word inserting spaces between lines	By default, Word 2007 will appear to insert blank lines in between each line, when you use the Enter key. This can also affect automatically populated documents from applications that use the Word Object. This is simply the default paragraph settings, and you can turn this off or adjust it to suit yourself by doing the following. On the Ribbon, Click Home and then click at the bottom Right of Paragraph. This will popup the Paragraph dialogue box. I set the Spacing Before and After to 0 pt and Line spacing to Single. I can always use the Enter key, if I want blank lines in a document. Then Click Default... and then Yes to save the defaults in the NORMAL template.
MSAccess pictures embedded and Compatibility with Access 2002	We found serious problems with compatibility between Access 2007 and 2002. There was no risk or evidence of data loss, this problem was only with the graphics, background colors and pictures. A database that is operating on Access 2002 was modified with 2007 in Compatability Mode. It ran fine afterwards on 2007 and 2003, but when run on MSAccess 2002 there were irregularities, such as some background images lost, some navigation buttons became blank boxes and Queries opened in a form that was modified were not visible due to being all black. The only way to recover things was to rebuild each corrupted form in 2003 or 2002. We suggest that if you are modifying an Access database for 2002, then do it in MSAccess 2003 and not 2007.
Office Menu System to restore your sanity	I found myself getting continually frustrated with the new Ribbon that replaces straight forward menus. The Ribbon idea is probably ok, if you are editing a document, and have the time and creativeness to look at big icons, and play around. For the serious user, you are in the middle of doing something, like calculating some figures or presenting some information, you know what you want, and just need to access it on a relevant menu. It is so frustrating trying to find it on the Ribbons, and they are largely fixed. Apart from minor exceptions, you can't change them. I complained to Microsoft, and they assured me I would like it if I kept trying. Well 10 weeks, and I am still trying. Then the relief when I would work on another PC with Office 2003. Everything was so much more logical. The answer is to purchase a separately developed menu system. The one I found keeps the Office 2007 ribbon, and installs an Office 2003 Menu system on the Ribbon. Outlook 2007 sometimes responds with "Cannot send this item"	Sometimes when you try to save or send and email, with me it was a Reply, you get a message saying, Cannot Send this item. It does not tell you why and is very frustrating. To work around this, change the format of this message to Rich Text. While in the message, click Options | Rich Text, then click Send.
Opening xls from Windows Explorer, (eg double click on xls file to open) keeps opening in same instance of Excel.	For XP Go to Windows XP for the solution to this. For Vista Go to Windows Vista for the solution to this.
When using Delay Sending option in Outlook 2007 to send emails at a later date, then when you exit Outlook, every time it prompts you with unsent mail in your outbox, and an "Exit without Sending" button, which you have to click.	This seems to be a bit of a bug, but to Work around it, simply go into your Outbox, click to open the email that is set for delayed sending, and click Send again. You will see it move from the current date to the Date:none area in the Outbox, and the prompts when you exit Outlook won't happen any more. Note: Outlook does have to be running for them to be sent at the time and date of the Delay Sending Option.
Trouble moving email between folders in Outlook 2007. I was able to move an email once, but subsequent attempts were ignored. Drag it or select and choose move, and it just stayed there.	I searched the web and found only a couple of instances of this, but there were no solutions. This problem affected scripts moving emails as well. I tried a full repair of PST and reducing the size, but nothing helped. I eventually found the Office Diagnostics, and ran that. After running that, and it reporting fixing one fault, I was able to move emails between folders more than once. Every thing worked as it should. The diagnostics are accessed from within Outlook. If you have a Menu, it is under Help. If you don't have a Menu, you can add the diagnostics button to a tool bar, by choosing Add or Remove Buttons, Customize, Select Help, find the Office Diagnostics and drag it to a toolbar.
